WhatStudio is housed in a very special space, it inspires performance. The room sounds amazing. At 14x7 metres the space easily fits a larger ensemble and works for live group recording as readily as layering up individual performances, separately. All the equipment and instruments at WhatStudio are available for you to use, and you are encouraged and supported to experiment. After your recording time, you will be emailed the 'TIMELINE' recording of your performance as it sounds, 'raw' and 'untouched' before any further WhatStudio work is undertaken. Its purpose is simple, to enable you to confirm all the elements you recorded are present, so we are ready to move forward into the next phase.

Arrival and parking: Enter the main gates on Percy Street and turn left to park at the long side of the church on the left, leaving room for other cars to pass. Call WhatStudio on the number provided and the you will be met at the large double doors closest to the parking spaces, facing Percy Street (up the steps behind the pillars). Parking is free on site. Please resist any temptation to give anyone access to St Bride's premises without the knowledge and consent of WhatStudio. Ongoing access/Locking system: If you or your band members are letting each other in or out of the facility, please ensure the locking procedure is properly followed. The procedure is easy, and will be introduced as soon as needed. If unsure, please ask WhatStudio, to check. Your support for the safety and wellbeing of all St Bride's occupants is much appreciated. Insurance and rights: For your peace of mind, WhatStudio has public liability insurance. The Client is responsible for any harm or damage that may occur to any person in his/her party or to equipment belonging to the Client. The Client shall be responsible for any loss or damage to WhatStudio property incurred by the Client, employees of the Client, and guests of the Client. By agreeing to use the facility, the Client has committed to replacing items lost or damaged incurred in the ways specified, on a like-for-like basis. The Client agrees to allow use of his/her name/photographic images and video footage, and/or musical samples for promotional purposes, on e.g. WhatStudio’s website/other. WhatStudio will not sell, nor allow downloads, of the Client’s music from WhatStudio's website or promotional materials. The Client has the right to request no use of photography or filming or music, and is responsible for informing WhatStudio if this is the case. If WhatStudio must cancel a session due to illness or other reasonable cause, the session will be rescheduled for the earliest available studio time possible for the Client. In the event that neither the Client nor WhatStudio can agree upon a date and time for a session, WhatStudio will refund any deposit previously paid by the Client. Filming: You are welcome to document the sessions for social media promotion etc, but if you intend to bring a professional photographer or videographer, this must be arranged beforehand. A small host fee may be due, as WhatStudio offers photography and filming services. (We can be flexible on this topic, still, it's kind of like taking your own sandwiches to a restaurant). Refreshments: Fresh coffee, water and tea are available upstairs in What Studio. You are welcome to bring your own food and refereshment, however the studio is located near to all that the city centre has to offer in this regard. WC: Two separate toilets are located on the ground floor of St Bride's, at the opposite end of the building to WhatStudio. Please be respectful and pass through the main space as quiet as a mouse. Smoking etc: Smokers are welcome to smoke outdoors, and are asked to take care of cigarette butts and any other litter produced. The Client is advised that the consumption of alcohol and illegal substances is prohibited on the facility's grounds.

The short answer is... yes! Please note, STEMS are sub-mixes (Bob explains this in the video below). If you want a folder containing every single audio track (including midi audio) for your song, you need to request MULTI-TRACKs. The easiest way to get access to your STEMS or MULTI-TRACKs is to discuss and plan for this to take place within your session time. If you request STEMS or MULTI-TRACKs months later, well after your session, files often need to be retrieved from the WhatStudio archives. This takes additoinal time, and therefore incurrs a recall fee if required quickly (otherwise, delivery is at the discretion of What Studio's timetable). ...so, you are strongly recommended to request your files on the day of your session. Do it at the time, it sooo much easier, and fresh, and done.

I want us to both arrive at a happy end point together, fully satisfied with the work completed. Good communication drives this process, which is ‘designed in’ to the process here at WhatStudio. If you recorded with WhatStudio you will have already received the TIMELINE audio which is a reference of the RECORDING stage. In the mixing process, music will be delivered in two stages, LISTENER then MIX. LISTENER is when we establish priorities for the mix, addressing balance and arrangement concerns, with the expectation that adjustments will be needed. There may be one or two LISTENER files delivered until this is correct. Stage 2, MIX, gets into fine detail… MIX files are the ones you are encouraged to ‘sit with’ and try on all your different speakers etc. You can then feed back and we can make final revisions if needed. Each file is sent to you labelled with its Name, Stage, Date and Version Number. This means you know what to expect, as the mixing process moves towards the ‘MIX’ you agree on, at which point your music ready for mastering. Mix feedback sessions can be in person at WhatStudio, live on Zoom a with real-time audio and visual of my timeline, or simply take place by email, and all worked to suit your schedule.

After trying many different proceess, apps, websites and approaches, the following route seems to be the most natural, as most musicans have a email account and know how to steer it. a) An email is sent to you with some hilerous bants and a link to your music. b) Click to the link and be taken to your file or folder containg your music. c) Download your file/s. NB You can listen, i.e. 'stream', straight from the email browser but this will play at a low quality as it is 'streaming'... It is always best to download files for critical listening :) Upon completion of your project, WhatStudio will deliver to you the finished stereo file/s, meeting current audio conventions and/or in any file format you request. Any multi-tracks or stems of the session this must be discussed and/or arranged within the session time, or risk additional charges. See 'Can we get the STEMS' for more info.
